TREKS AND TRAILS

TREK TO SANKSHI FORT

You need sturdy legs to take you to the top of Sankshi Fort, at a height of 700 feet. Along the way, spot butterflies such as the Blue Bottle and Glassy Tiger, birds like the Brownheaded Barbet and Shaheen Falcon. Carry water and lunch. Charges Rs 650.

BREAKFAST WITH BUTTERFLIES

Butterfly games, butterfly craft, butterfly spotting and a treasure hunt are all part of the morning.

THE GREAT INDIAN BUSTARD SANCTUARY

The Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary at Nannaj, 20 kms from Solapur, is the best place to see India’s most endangered bird. Charges Rs 3,000 (includes food, accommodation and local travel). To get to the camp report to Solapur station at 8am on Friday morning.

WORKSHOP

JOY OF MOVEMENT

A fun introductory workshop on Indian classical dance forms led by four professional classical dancers of Bharatanatyam, Mohiniattam, Kuchipudi and Odissi will teach kids about the origins, history, rhythms, music and specialties of each style. Age: 6-14 years. Charges: Rs 1,200 per participant.

LIL GLOBE TROTTERS

Arts in Motion Studios introduces this eight-session workshop that will use techniques like picture talk, story-telling, art and craft, puzzles, dance and yoga to teach kids the culture and dance of different countries. Age: 4-6 years. Charges: Rs 2,500 per person.

PARENT-CHILD DANCE WORKSHOP

Parents and children can learn traditional dance together. Not only is this an opportunity to learn Odissi, Bharata Natyam, Mohiniattam and Kuchipudi, but also a chance for parents to spend quality time with their kids. OUT OF THE BOX

Shivani Tibrewala, director of theatre company No License Yet has put together this creative thinking and theatre workshop for kids. It will teach them a series of mindbending exercises to challenge their notions of time and space and stretch their imagination through performing and visual arts. Age: 6-12 years. ANYONE CAN WRITE

This is a mentoring initiative that guides children towards authorship. They can send their written samples to children’s author Dheera Kitchlu (at contact @serenewoods.com), and she will mentor them on a one-on-one basis to help improve their writing with a view to being published. Serene Woods, a portal for emerging authors, will publish these in a book. This mentorship is free.

FILM

A RENDEZVOUS WITH FRENCH CINEMA

The NCPA, in collaboration with the Alliance Francaise, showcases the comic cinema of Jacques Tati. Two French films with English subtitles will be screened. In School for Postmen Tati is an accident-prone postal worker who must deliver mail to a remote French village. Mr. Hulot’s Holiday traces the adventures of Mr. Hulot (France’s Mr. Bean) at a beach resort. For children over 14.
